The Ealing Post is an independent news and information site for the London borough of Ealing. Our aim is straightforward: report what is changing across the borough, and make the everyday local information people look up easy to find. Alongside that we keep a guide to what is on here.

Where we cover

Our patch is the borough of Ealing, in west London between Acton and Northolt: Ealing Broadway, Ealing Common, West Ealing, Northfields, Pitshanger and Hanger Hill; Acton, north, south, east and west; Southall, with Norwood Green and Dormers Wells; and Greenford, Perivale, Northolt and Hanwell. That is the W3, W5, W7, W13, UB1, UB2, UB5 and UB6 postcodes.

Boundaries here catch people out, so we check them before we publish. Chiswick and Brentford are in Hounslow, Hayes and Yeading are in Hillingdon, and Wembley, Alperton and Harlesden are in Brent, even though the Ealing Road that runs through Alperton and the one in Brentford both carry the name. Park Royal straddles Ealing, Brent and Hammersmith and Fulham, and only its southern end is ours. Acton is the name we are most careful with, because it turns up as a street and a surname across the country, so an Acton address only becomes an Acton story once the postcode says W3. Southall has its own strong local identity, and we cover it as Southall rather than folding it into Ealing.

How we report

Most of what we publish comes from public records that anyone is entitled to see but few people have time to read: planning documents and the weekly lists Ealing Council publishes on its Public Access register, ward by ward across the borough’s 27 wards; open crime data from the Metropolitan Police; sold-price data from HM Land Registry; the Food Standards Agency’s hygiene register; notices in The Gazette; and official alerts on flooding, weather and roadworks, including Environment Agency warnings for the River Brent and the River Crane. We turn those records into plain-English stories and link to the original source on every one, so you can check the facts yourself.

We use software to help monitor those sources and draft routine updates quickly, the same approach the large regional publishers now use, but the facts always come from the named source, never invented, and anything sensitive is checked by a person before it is published.

Tell us what is happening

Some of the best local stories start with someone who noticed it first. If you know of a planning row on your street, a road closure, a business opening or closing, or a community event worth listing, email hello@ealingpost.co.uk. We read everything and we treat tips in confidence.

Images

Where we use a photograph we either took it ourselves, licensed it, used an image supplied to us for that purpose, or used an openly licensed image, and we credit it as required. We do not republish other outlets’ photographs.

Corrections

We would rather be accurate than first. If you spot an error, email hello@ealingpost.co.uk and we will put it right and note the correction.
