Of 49 Ealing food premises rated in September, 37 scored the top 5. Two got a 1 and three a 2, including a Hanwell hotel and its restaurant. The full list.

Ealing Council’s inspectors gave food hygiene ratings to 49 premises in September, and 37 of them scored the top rating of 5. Five were rated 2 or below, the scores the Food Standards Agency describes as needing improvement.

The figures come from the FSA’s ratings register for Ealing, which we read in full on 11 October. It held no ratings dated after 25 September, so ratings from late September and October will appear in our next roundup.

Rated 1 or 2

A rating of 1 means “major improvement necessary” and 2 means “improvement necessary”. These are the five premises the register records at those scores for September, exactly as it names them:

Business Type Address Rated Inspected
Chilli Spice & Wine Takeaway 5 The Vale, Acton, W3 7SH 1 2 Sep
Balaji Foods Manufacturer Unit 11, Adrienne Business Centre, Adrienne Avenue, Southall, UB1 2FJ 1 3 Sep
Voyage Residential Care Home Care premises 137 Tentelow Lane, Southall, UB2 4LW 2 1 Sep
Boston Manor Hotel Hotel 146-152 Boston Road, Hanwell, W7 2HJ 2 2 Sep
Penang Tiffin Restaurant Boston Manor Hotel, 146-152 Boston Road, Hanwell, W7 2HJ 2 2 Sep

The Boston Manor Hotel and the Penang Tiffin restaurant inside it are listed separately and were inspected on the same day.

A low rating is a snapshot of one inspection. Every business can appeal within 21 days, can publish a written right of reply on the FSA site, and can ask for a re-inspection once it has made the improvements. Each linked FSA page shows any reply and whether a new rating is pending.

Rated 3

Five premises were rated 3, “generally satisfactory”:

Rated 4

Rated 5

These 37 premises were rated 5, “very good”. Home-based caterers appear on the register with only a postcode district, and we have listed them the same way.

What it means for you

  • Check before you order. Search any business on the FSA ratings site. Businesses in England do not have to display their sticker, so the register is the only reliable check.
  • Look at the date. A rating can be months or years old. Each FSA page shows when the inspection took place.
  • Report a problem. If you see poor hygiene in an Ealing food business, the council’s food safety team takes complaints through the FSA’s reporting service.

We publish a hygiene roundup for Ealing every fortnight. Business owners can find their own rating and appeal details on the FSA site.
